What is our position on the Israʼiliyyat?

There are three situations regarding Israʼiliyat (tales and traditions of Jewish or Christian origin): they must be believed if the Qur’an or Sunnah indicates their truthfulness; they must be disbelieved if the Qur’an and Sunnah indicate their falsity; and neither disbelief nor belief is permissible if neither the Qur’an nor the Sunnah confirms their truthfulness or falsity. Israʼiliyat stories that contradict the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah are to be disbelieved.
