What is the ruling on Israʼiliyyat in religion and the stories mentioned about them in Bukhari?

The Isra'iliyyat (narrations from the People of the Book) are divided into three categories: what is definitively true because it conforms to Islamic law, what is definitively false because it contradicts Islamic law, and what is neither affirmed nor denied. This last category may be narrated for admonition but is not a proof in religion. As for what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, narrated to us from the accounts of the People of the Book, it is a revelation that must be definitively affirmed as true if its attribution to him is sound, due to the benefits and lessons it contains.
