Is it permissible to sell merchandise that a person purchases after a customer orders it, with the possibility of the customer returning the merchandise and it remaining with him?

If you conclude a sale with a second party before purchasing the goods from the first party, possessing them, and taking ownership of them, then the sale is void because you sold what you do not own. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade that.
