With whom do I continue lessons and follow-up amidst the disagreement of the People of Sunnah, and how can one achieve salvation from the division mentioned in the prophetic hadith, especially since the shaykhs of one mosque accuse the shaykhs of another mosque of innovation because they do not fight against the people of innovation who practice praying upon the Prophet after the adhan, collective dhikr circles, and audible adhkar after prayer?
Among those who affiliate with Sufism in our present era, there is a widespread occurrence of polytheistic practices (), innovations (bid'ah), and superstitions, due to ignorance and blind imitation of their leaders. It is advisable to be gentle in calling them to Allah and to clarify the truth to them from the Quran and , with compassion for them. It is permissible to abandon (hajr) the stubborn one if it is highly probable that there is a benefit in doing so.
Everyone must adhere to unity and concord, and stay away from division, discord, and calling each other by derogatory titles. They should also excuse one another in matters of (independent reasoning). This difference among brethren does not prevent seeking knowledge from any shaykh who is qualified. One must beware of fanaticism or loyalty and enmity based on other than a legitimate Shar'i (Islamic legal) basis.
This difference is not of the blameworthy kind of disunity within the Ummah, which relates to differences in the fundamentals of (monotheism).
