What is entailed for a husband who swore to forbid himself from visiting his country, saying: "Visiting this country is forbidden to me just as my sister is forbidden to me, and I will not come here except after my death," knowing that he has not been able to visit his country since then?

A person is not forbidden from what they forbid upon themselves, except for their wife. For example, if a husband forbids himself from entering a house or a country, or wearing a garment, these things do not become forbidden for him. Scholars differ on whether an expiation for breaking an oath (kaffarat yameen) is required in such cases.
