Is it forbidden to expose sins and abominable acts when seeking a fatwa from Islamic scholars?

A Muslim must repent upon committing a sin and conceal it, based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "All of my Ummah are forgiven except for the defiant ones." It is permissible for him to inform scholars about what he did to seek advice or a fatwa. Imam Al-Nawawi said: "If he informs his شيخ (spiritual guide) or someone similar, from whom he hopes to learn a way out of it, or what will safeguard him from falling into the cause that led him to it, or to pray for him, or something similar, then it is good." Al-Ghazali said: "Blameworthy disclosure occurs when it is done defiantly and mockingly, not for the purpose of asking or seeking a fatwa."
