Is it forbidden to expose sins and transgressions when seeking a fatwa from religious scholars?

A Muslim must repent from sin and conceal it, for publicizing sins is forbidden; as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "All of my Ummah are safe except for those who publicize their sins." It is permissible to inform scholars about the sin to seek advice and a fatwa, as this is good, so long as the benefit of publicizing it is absent.
