Have I committed a sin by refraining from marriage and dedicating my life to worship after the death of someone I loved, hoping to meet him in the afterlife?
There is no sin upon one who abstains from marriage if they do not fear falling into the forbidden. However, if they fear falling into it, marriage becomes obligatory for them if they are able, in order to protect themselves and divert themselves from the unlawful, as marriage is a means to that end. One should not refrain from marriage due to the great benefits it contains. The Islamic Law has encouraged it, and it is among the traditions of the Prophets and Messengers. Marriage is recommended when one is able to, for someone whose religion and character are pleasing.
