Is it permissible to listen to the Quran while exercising?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the exercise is strenuous and diverts effort from listening to the Quran, it is preferable to postpone it until the soul rests, due to the Almighty's saying: "And when the Quran is recited, listen to it and pay attention, that you may receive mercy." And it is supported by the hadith of Abu Hurairah: "When the prayer is commenced, do not come to it running, but come to it walking, and you must maintain tranquility," this is to avoid fatigue and shortness of breath that affect humility and contemplation. However, if the exercise is light, such as walking, there is no harm in that.
