This statement is religiously forbidden with a severe prohibition. However, it does not lead its utterer to disbelief (kufr) upon breaking the oath, unless that was his intention in his heart. There is disagreement whether expiation () is required for it or not. Al-Mundhiri and Al-Khattabi preferred the view that no expiation is required for it.
