A will is legally sanctioned and subject to the five legal rulings. It becomes obligatory if a Muslim has a legitimate right that they fear losing, or if they know that their family will wail over them after their death, as this could lead to their torment. A will to abandon wailing and lamentation is obligatory; otherwise, the deceased will be tormented for their negligence in failing to make such a will.

As for willing one-third or less of one's wealth to those for whom a will is valid, it is permissible. It is commendable for a Muslim to bequeath one-third of their wealth to relatives, the poor, and the righteous, provided it does not harm the heirs. It is forbidden if it causes harm to the heirs, and disliked if the testator has little wealth and an heir who is in need of it, but it is permissible for the wealthy.

A will regarding the deceased's body is permissible, such as willing that a specific person wash them, or that they be buried in a particular place. There is no harm in willing that their heirs supplicate for them and recite some of the Qur'an over them.
