Does the revival of the Sunnah, "Prepare food for the family of Jafar," occur by sending ready-made food (delivery) from a restaurant to the family of the deceased, or is it a condition that the food be homemade for the full reward to be achieved?

It is recommended to prepare food for the family of the deceased due to their preoccupation with their loss. This is what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did with the family of Ja'far. Imam Al-Shafi'i and Al-Shawkani commented on this, stating that it is a noble Sunnah and a form of consolation. This Sunnah can be fulfilled by any means of delivering food, whether it is prepared at home or ordered from a restaurant. The availability of restaurants does not justify abandoning this Sunnah, as preoccupation with the loss remains. The family of the deceased may not wish to order food themselves or may find it awkward to do so. Moreover, providing food strengthens social bonds and offers solace. This act remains within its legitimate bounds without ostentation.
