The answer

Natural silk is forbidden for men, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, these two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah." As for artificial silk, it is not forbidden, because the default rule for things is permissibility. Nevertheless, a man should avoid very soft synthetic fabrics that resemble women's clothing, as this goes against the requirements of masculinity and ruggedness.
