What are your instructions and advice for me to return to God and to repentance, knowing my mistake and fearing backsliding again due to the abundance of abominations around me in the home that I cannot change?
The cure and remedy lie in turning to Allah alone, for He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy, and He rejoices at the repentance of His servant. Hasten to sincere repentance and humility before Him. Indeed, Ibn al-Qayyim describes true repentance as a special brokenness that befalls the heart, making it humble and submissive before its Lord, finding no refuge except in Him, mindful of its weakness and its need for Allah, and of His strength and might. Thus, a brokenness, humility, and submission gather for it, which are most beloved to Allah. Among the supplications for this is: "I ask You by Your might and my lowliness, that You have mercy on me," and "There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You." And when you repent, seek Allah's help to make you steadfast, and know that your obedience in places of forbidden acts carries immense reward. As for the forbidden acts you are unable to condemn, detest them in your heart and supplicate for the guidance of their perpetrators.
