Is a university student entitled to sleep outside the home and settle near his university to escape his father's forcing him to stay at home, and the resulting insults, curses, damnation, and perhaps even beatings from his leaving?

Obeying one's parents in what is good is among the best acts of drawing near to Allah, and enduring their harm greatly increases one's rewards. We advise obeying your father and being good to him. However, if staying with him causes harm or severe hardship, then there is no sin in leaving the house, while continuing to visit him and show him righteousness to the best of your ability. You will not be considered disobedient (''aqq'') for doing so. Ibn Qudamah said: "As for the mature, discerning adult, there is no custody over him. He has the choice to reside with whichever of his parents he wishes. If he is a man, he may live independently, as he is no longer in need of them. However, it is recommended that he not live apart from them and not cease his acts of righteousness towards them."
