What should one who forgot to exit the state of ihram after Hajj do, and then remembered it a year later?

The first stage of exiting ihram (ritual consecration) by shaving or shortening the hair in Hajj is either a wajib (obligatory act) or a rukn (pillar). If someone omits it out of forgetfulness or delays it past the Day of Eid, they must shave, even if a long time has passed, and no dam (expiatory sacrifice) is required of them. If the person who omitted shaving commits mahzurat al-ihram (prohibitions of ihram) out of ignorance of their ruling, then nothing is incumbent upon them. What is now obligatory for the questioner is to take from her hair the length of a fingertip with the intention of exiting ihram, and she is not required to return to Makkah.
