Why is the dhikr (remembrance of God) authentically transmitted from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, preferred over other forms of dhikr?

The remembrances (adhkar) of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his guidance are the best of remembrances and guidance, for he was the most knowledgeable of people concerning Allah and the best of them in praising Him, and he was given comprehensive words. Muslims must follow him in his remembrances, for doing so earns Allah’s love, mercy, forgiveness, and guidance, as indicated by Allah’s saying: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.'" (Quran 3:31) And His saying: "And follow him that you may be guided." (Quran 7:158) The eagerness of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, to emulate him in remembrances indicates its importance. Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, asked him to teach him a supplication to say in his prayer, so the Prophet, peace be upon him, taught him: "O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You. So grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, for You are the Forgiving, the Merciful."
