As for mixed-gender study, the default rule for it is prohibition, but it is permissible due to widespread necessity (umum al-balwa) with certain conditions, including: first, searching for a non-mixed environment; then, adhering to Islamic rulings; and abandoning the study if one observes a slide towards the forbidden. It is advised to be keen on completing the study while adhering to Islamic guidelines, and for the two friends to be a support to each other in obedience. The jurisprudential rule is: what is tolerated in continuation is not tolerated in initiation. After completing college, one can study Islamic sciences.
