Is it permissible to lean on a wall or a chair during prayer to rest one's back?

There are two scenarios for leaning during obligatory prayers:

The first is for the worshiper to lean on something in such a way that they would fall if it were removed. This invalidates the prayer according to the Hanafis, Malikis, Hanbalis, and one opinion among the Shafi'is, because the worshiper is not considered to be standing.

The second is for the leaning to be light, such that the worshiper would not fall if what they were leaning on were removed. This is disliked by the majority of scholars, but the prayer is valid. Some scholars have stated that leaning is permissible in all cases.

Therefore, leaning on a wall in such a way that the worshiper would fall if it were removed is not permissible according to the majority of scholars. However, if the leaning is light, the prayer is valid but disliked.

As for leaning on a chair: If it is merely leaning, the ruling is the same as above. However, if the intention is to sit on it, then this is not permissible in an obligatory prayer for someone who is able to stand. In supererogatory prayers, it is permissible to lean on a wall or similar object, and it is also permissible to pray sitting on a chair or otherwise.
