What is the in-depth interpretation of verse 56 of Surat Az-Zukhruf, "an example and a lesson for others"?

The Exalted's saying: ﴿And We made them a precedent and an example for later generations﴾ means that the destruction of Pharaoh's people became an example for disbelievers who commit acts similar to theirs, making them deserving of punishment. We made them preceding, going before, so that those who come after might learn a lesson from them. "And an example for later generations" means a wondrous tale circulating among people like proverbs, serving as a lesson for them that whoever does what they did will suffer what they suffered.
