Maintaining kinship ties is an obligation and one of the rights of Allah. This right is not forfeited by ill-treatment from relatives or by their showing of hatred. Kinship ties must be maintained by all means customarily considered as such, such as supplicating for them, offering assistance, checking on their well-being, and exchanging greetings. The least of these is refraining from desertion and maintaining ties through speech, especially if visiting and speaking cause harm. It is advisable to strive to remove grudges and to seek the help of family members if necessary.
