Are the Ashraf truly existent? And are they descendants of the Messenger, may God's prayers and peace be upon him? And was there a hadith narrated from the Messenger, may God's prayers and peace be upon him: "Arabs for Arabs, and non-Arabs for all, but my Ummah is belly to belly"?

The Ashraf (descendants of the Prophet Muhammad) are numerous today and their lineages are well-established. As for the mentioned hadith, "Arabs are peers to Arabs," it is weak, denounced, and fabricated. What indicates that lineage is not a criterion for competence is the hadith: "If someone comes to you whose دين (religious commitment) and خلق (character) you are pleased with, then marry him [to your daughter], for if you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." Furthermore, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf married his sister to Bilal, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, married Fatimah bint Qays to Usamah ibn Zayd.
