What is the ruling on a wife continuing to obey her husband who disregards her non-material rights and treats her with complete harshness, and how can she persuade him to divorce her?

A husband must treat his wife with kindness (ma'ruf), as Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness," and "Then retain them in kindness or release them in kindness." If a husband treats her poorly, she must be patient and obedient. However, if her patience runs out and she fears falling into haram (unlawful acts), she must inform her husband of her situation directly or through her guardian so that he may rectify his behavior or separate from her in kindness.
