A husband must treat his wife with kindness (ma'ruf), as Allah Almighty says: "And live with them in kindness," and "Then retain them in kindness or release them in kindness." If a husband treats her poorly, she must be patient and obedient. However, if her patience runs out and she fears falling into (unlawful acts), she must inform her husband of her situation directly or through her guardian so that he may rectify his behavior or separate from her in kindness.
