Is it permissible to continue a relationship that began with getting to know a girl online, then developed into phone conversations with the intention of marriage, while fearing that this impermissible beginning might be an indication of a wrong ending? And should one ask for the girl's hand in marriage if she is righteous, or should the relationship be severed?

It is permissible for the questioner to marry the girl he loves if she is righteous and he desires her. They should both repent and increase in good deeds, for marriage is the solution for those who love each other, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Succeed with the pious one, may your hands be soiled," and "Nothing is seen for two who love each other better than marriage."
