Why did the Prophet Solomon ask for a dominion that no one after him would have, despite his knowledge of the world's perishability and the transience of its dominion?

Al-Tabari held that Solomon's desire for dominion was not a worldly desire, but rather to demonstrate his status with God and to have his supplication answered. He also believed that Solomon's request for a dominion such as none after him should have meant a dominion that would not be taken away from him, or a dominion specific to him as a proof of his prophethood. Al-Tabari, Ibn Arafa, and Ibn Juzayy also denied that this was envy on the part of Solomon, peace be upon him. Ibn Arafa mentioned the possibility that God revealed to Solomon that this gift would only be attained by one man, so Solomon desired to be that man. Solomon prioritized seeking forgiveness over requesting dominion due to the importance of religious matters to him.
