Is the kingship of Solomon a matter known by necessity in the religion? And is his ability to converse with animals and to subjugate jinn and the wind to his command the only thing that distinguishes his kingship? And what is the authenticity of the hadith: "Four have ruled the earth: two believers and two disbelievers. The two believers are Dhul-Qarnayn and Solomon, and the two disbelievers are Nimrod and Nebuchadnezzar. And a fifth from my household shall rule it," and similar narrations? And does it mean ruling the entire earth? And why has this not been mentioned historically?

The kingship of Solomon is not a matter known to be an essential part of the religion (ma'lum min al-din bi al-darurah). What is meant by "known to be an essential part of the religion" is that which is commonly known by both the elite and the general public, and it varies with time and place. Solomon's kingship was general and comprehensive, as indicated by the Almighty's saying: "and we have been given of all things" (Quran 27:16). It was not limited to understanding the language of animals, or controlling jinn and the wind. Allah bestowed upon him a dominion that He had not given to any other human.
