What is delegation and what are its implications?

Delegating Allah Almighty's attributes can be valid or invalid. Valid delegation means affirming the لفظ (wording) and its meaning, which is befitting of Allah, and entrusting the knowledge of its kaifiyyah (modality/how-ness) to Allah. This is the doctrine of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah. As for invalid delegation, it means affirming the لفظ (wording) without knowing its meaning, and this is considered among the worst statements of the people of innovation and atheism. There has been a misconception that the doctrine of the Salaf (pious predecessors) is tafwid (delegation), but their saying, "Pass them on as they came without kaif (modality)," indicates affirming the meaning and negating the kaifiyyah, not negating the meaning itself.
