What is the ruling on a wife staying at her family's home for nearly forty days after childbirth, and her subsequent refusal to return to her husband's house, and what does the religion require to solve this problem?

A wife must obey her husband by returning to his home if he provides for her needs. It is not permissible for her to obey her parents by staying with them without his permission, for obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents. If she does not do so, she is considered disobedient (nashiz). We advise the wife and her family to fear Allah and not prevent her from returning to her home. We advise the husband to discuss the matter with them and explain the ruling of Islamic law. If they do not respond, he should seek mediation from wise and righteous individuals.
