What should I do regarding people who slandered my wife and me, and swore a false oath upon the Qur'an?

The Sharia has protected honor and deemed delving into it among the major sins. It has ruled that anyone who slanders chaste women should be flogged, their testimony rejected, and they be described as فاسق (defiantly disobedient). So, if someone accuses a chaste person of indecency and does not produce four witnesses, the accused has the right to bring the matter before the ruler to establish the حد (prescribed punishment) of eighty lashes.

If there is evidence of slander, you have the right to present the matter to the judge to establish the prescribed punishment, and their oath will not be considered then. However, if there is no evidence, scholars have differed on whether to administer an oath to the one who denies the slander. Some believe that an oath should not be administered because it is a prescribed punishment, while others believe it should be administered because it is a human right.

It is advisable to pardon and forgive if there is no overriding benefit in taking the matter to court. Pardoning an offender is a noble trait that increases one's honor, and it is a way to attain Allah's pardon and forgiveness.
