What is the societal phenomenon addressed by the Hadith "Avoid the seven destructive sins"?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urges the Muslim community to avoid the seven destructive sins (al-Mubiqat) due to the material and moral corruption they cause, the disintegration of Muslim societies, and their clash with the fundamental objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid al-Shari'ah) in preserving religion, life, intellect, wealth, honor, and lineage. Moreover, committing these sins contradicts Allah's honoring of humanity through worshipping Him alone, for a polytheist descends from the rank of humanity. A cohesive and strong Muslim society cannot be established except by avoiding these major and destructive sins.
