What is the desired benefit of sincere repentance, given the existence of many debts resulting from thefts from Muslims and non-Muslims, and usurious debts? And does the observance of the obligatory duties without the supererogatory acts and Sunnah suffice for those rights?

Repentance and mending one's relationship with Allah are the foundation of all good. One must frequently seek forgiveness (istighfar) and perform supererogatory acts of worship, for good deeds erase bad deeds. As for the stolen items, their value must be estimated and repaid to their owners, even if in installments. If the owner of the money cannot be reached, then it must be given in charity on their behalf. When returning the money, it is not necessary to disclose the full truth; rather, it is permissible to use stratagem by returning the money without mentioning its true source.
