Is it correct to distance oneself from a father who opposes his children in their religious matters, invokes curses upon them, and demands unreasonable things that lead to psychological illnesses?
Allah Almighty has made it obligatory for children to be dutiful and good to their parents, citing the noble verses: "And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And to parents, good treatment," and "And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment," and "And We have enjoined upon man goodness to his parents." In addition to the noble : "Indeed, Allah enjoins you concerning your fathers; indeed, Allah enjoins you concerning your mothers." These texts indicate the obligation of honoring parents, enduring their harm, and bearing it seeking reward. Boycotting is generally forbidden, and its prohibition intensifies if it is against one's parents. It is advisable to break down barriers between children and their father, advising him with gentleness and kindness, while emphasizing that he should not be obeyed if he commands a sin; for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. And part of dutifulness is advising the father and not obeying him in what is reprehensible.
