What is the response to the presence of the Prophet's grave (peace and blessings be upon him) inside his mosque in Medina, given the noble Hadith: "May Allah curse the Jews for taking the graves of their prophets as places of worship"?

Scholars, ancient and modern, have discussed the issue of the Prophet's grave being inside his mosque. The Companions buried him in Aisha's house, not in the mosque. When Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik expanded the mosque, he incorporated the chamber into it, and he was mistaken in doing so. This cannot be used as an argument for building mosques over graves or burying people in them, because that contradicts sound hadiths and is a means to shirk (polytheism). Prayer in a mosque containing a grave is of two types: 1. If the grave predates the mosque: The mosque must be abandoned and demolished. 2. If the mosque predates the grave: The grave must be exhumed and the deceased removed from it, and prayer in the mosque is permissible, provided that the grave is not in front of the worshiper.

The Prophet's grave was not built upon by the mosque, nor was it placed within it, so there is no argument in it for those who contend for burial in mosques. Hadiths have been reported that prohibit taking graves as mosques and curse those who do so.
