Love of one's homeland is innate, but attaching al-wala' wal-bara' (loyalty and disavowal) to it is reprehensible. The true bond among Muslims is religion, and the homeland of every Muslim is wherever the word of Allah is elevated. The true Muslim fights for his homeland because he is a Muslim and so that the word of Allah remains supreme. The colonizer sought to fragment Muslims through nationalisms and ethnic affiliations. The obligation is for the greatest loyalty and belonging to be to religion, so the believer loves for the sake of Allah and despises the disbeliever, regardless of their homeland.
