The jurists have agreed upon the permissibility of a woman covering her face in front of foreign men, but they differed on its obligation. The preponderant opinion is the obligation of covering the face, especially after the spread of corruption. It is not permissible to obey the husband in abandoning the covering, unless a great harm, such as divorce, results from not obeying him. In such a case, it is permissible for the woman to follow the opinion of those who say it is permissible if she does not fear temptation. The wife should convince her husband with wisdom and gentleness.
