What is the ruling on hosting a non-Muslim in one's home for a period of time, whether male or female?

Honoring a Muslim guest is permissible. As for inviting disbelievers to one's home for a period, it depends: 1. If it entails a legitimate religious benefit, such as inviting them to Islam, then it is permissible. 2. If it is for a worldly benefit that cannot be achieved by a Muslim, then there is no harm, while prioritizing a Muslim when possible. 3. If it is for showing kindness to them, and they are peaceful, then there is no harm with the intention of inviting them [to Islam], based on the Almighty's saying: "Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them."

One must always adhere to the Shari'ah and not compromise it by neglecting an obligation or committing a forbidden act. One must also be cautious about intermingling with foreign individuals of the opposite sex. Thus, women should not be hosted unless there is a woman present to receive them, shield them from men, and ensure their influence is safe. Men should not be hosted by women.
