What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding undergoing necessary weight loss surgery due to the deterioration of one's health as a result of morbid obesity?

Plastic surgery can be permissible if it is for treating a defect or removing a deformity, which falls under the category of medical treatment. However, it can be forbidden if it is solely for enhancement and beautification, because it is considered altering Allah's creation. Scholars have stipulated that what is blameworthy is what is done for the sake of beauty, whereas it is permissible if it is for a medical necessity or treatment.

Therefore, if excessive obesity affects one's health and cannot be treated by conventional means, and a trustworthy Muslim doctor recommends a weight-loss surgery, then there is no objection to performing it due to health necessity.
