Is it permissible for a woman to seek divorce from her husband who claims to be religious, yet mistreats her, betrays her, and humiliates her?

This world is a place of trial, and a Muslim must be patient with what befalls him so that Allah may expiate his sins and raise his status. Therefore, the husband must cease what causes harm to his wife and repent and seek Allah's forgiveness. The wife should advise her husband and involve his relatives and scholars. If he responds, she should thank Allah. If he does not respond and does not change his nature, then she is not at fault for seeking a divorce, while weighing the harm of enduring the husband's abuse against the harm and consequences of divorce.
