Is the hadith, "All merchants will enter the Hellfire except for the pious," authentic?

No hadith with the exact wording mentioned has been reported, but similar hadiths exist. Among them is what was narrated by Al-Tirmidhi: "Indeed, merchants will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection as wicked sinners, except for those who fear Allah, are righteous, and truthful." Al-Mubarakfuri explained the exception as being for those who fear Allah by avoiding cheating, treachery, and lying in their oaths and all their speech. It was also reported from Abdur-Rahman ibn Shibl that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, merchants are the wicked sinners." It was asked: "O Messenger of Allah? Has not Allah permitted trade?" He replied: "Yes, but they speak and lie, and they swear and commit sins." This clarifies the reason for describing merchants as wicked sinners: their lying and swearing. Despite this, trade is one of the best means of earning if the merchant is truthful and trustworthy, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The truthful and trustworthy merchant will be with the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs." Al-Ghazali reconciled these hadiths by explaining that trade is blameworthy if it is pursued for increasing wealth to hoard it without spending it on good deeds, and it is best if it is pursued for sufficiency to avoid begging.
