The answer

Personal discipline is the ability to do what is required on time, whether one feels like it or not. It is the essence of effectiveness and achievement. The Prophet, peace be upon him, urged strength and diligence in what benefits, and sought refuge from helplessness and laziness, which are two opposites of self-discipline that lead to weak achievement.

The reasons for lack of self-discipline vary, including: 1. Not breaking down goals into small, sequential steps, despite the importance of consistent, even if small, effort. 2. Absence of deadlines for completing tasks. 3. Striving for absolute perfection, which leads to not starting or not achieving. 4. Unclear daily tasks or an excess of them. 5. Working on multiple large projects simultaneously. 6. Starting a major task without sufficient preparation or appropriate skills and tools. 7. Excessive social activities and time-wasters. 8. Neglecting times for recreation and personal enjoyment. 9. Neglecting to seek help from others or work collaboratively when needed. 10. Not understanding and dealing with emotions that hinder achievement.

Self-discipline is part of executive skills. It is recommended to read the book "Smart but Scattered" for a deeper understanding of the causes of dysfunction and methods of treatment.
