Is it necessary to check the color, smell, and taste of water before performing wudu, ghusl, or istinja'?

The fundamental principle regarding water is its purity. One is not obligated to investigate the purity of water unless there is a reason to do so, such as confounding pure water with impure water, or knowing that something has fallen into it that removes its purity and changed one of its characteristics. However, if there is no such reason, then investigation is not obligatory, and one must abandon obsessive doubts about it. If doubt arises concerning the impurity of water or the falling of something into it that removes its purity, it remains valid for use as long as there is no certainty of its invalidity.
