Is it permissible to perform ghusl or wudu with water that has been mixed with an impurity, when this water exceeds two Qullas?

If impurity mixes with water and changes one of its three characteristics (its color, taste, or smell), then by consensus, it is not permissible to use it. However, if impurity mixes with it but does not change it, then if the water reaches two qullas or more, it remains pure and can be used for ablution (wudu') and ritual bathing (ghusl (definition)), based on the hadith (definition): "When water reaches two qullas, nothing pollutes it." But if the water does not reach two qullas and impurity falls into it without changing it, then it loses its purifying quality and, according to the more sound opinion of the scholars, which is the view of the majority, it is not permissible to use it for purification. Conversely, some scholars, such as the Malikis, hold that it remains pure, though its use is disliked if other water is available.
