What is the ruling on water mixed with something pure? Is it permissible to perform ablution (wudu') and ritual bathing (ghusl) with it?

Pure water, if mixed with something pure, has three states:

1. If its color, taste, or smell does not change, it remains pure and purification with it is permissible. This includes slight changes that do not cause the water to cease being water.

2. If the water changes in a way that removes the name "water" from it, then purification with it is unanimously invalid, and it acquires another name, such as tea or broth.

3. If the water changes due to pure substances but does not cease to be called "water," scholars have differed on this: The majority of scholars hold that it is pure but not purifying, while the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifa, a narration from Imam Ahmad, and others is that it is pure and purifying as long as it is still called "water" and nothing else has predominated over it.
