Is it permissible for me to disobey my husband who prevents me from visiting my sister, who lives two hours away, because of the color of my sister's husband's skin?

A Muslim husband should not prevent his wife from visiting her relatives, as this constitutes severing ties of kinship, which is forbidden in Islamic law. Allah has linked the severing of kinship ties with corruption on earth. Islamic law encourages maintaining kinship ties and considers it an act of drawing closer to Allah.

However, if the wife's relatives are corrupt and engage in reprehensible acts, and there is a fear that they might negatively influence her faith or character, then the husband may prevent her from visiting them. In this case, obedience to him is obligatory, because his right takes precedence over everyone else's. She should not leave his house except with his permission, by agreement of the Imams. If the husband insists on preventing his wife from visiting her sister, she can maintain ties with her through modern communication means, such as phone calls.
