What are the practical controls for self-admiration (ʿujb), arrogance (kibr), and love of prominence, and when can a person be assured that his soul is free from these qualities, and what is intended by the Almighty’s saying: "But as for the favor of your Lord, report it"?

Arrogance is rejecting the truth and belittling people. It is when a person magnifies himself, admires his own virtues, and disdains others. Its manifestations include loving for people to stand for him, not visiting others, and avoiding sitting with the sick. As for conceit (ʿujb), it is magnifying a blessing and relying upon it while forgetting to attribute it to the Bestower. Its manifestations include talking excessively about oneself, seeking deeds (for recognition), difficulty accepting advice, and belittling others. Arrogance differs from conceit in that arrogance relates to creation and people, while conceit relates to worship. Furthermore, arrogance is in the heart, whereas conceit is the perception and magnification of an act of worship after performing it.
