What is the meaning of the Hadith: "Marry and have many children, for I will boast of your multitude before the nations on the Day of Resurrection," and what is the specific number of children (recommended) in Islam?

Permanent contraception is not permissible unless it poses a danger to the mother's life or causes her unbearable hardship. As for temporary contraception, it is permissible for the purpose of giving the mother rest or raising children. It is not permissible to prevent or delay pregnancy for fear of poverty, because provision is in the hand of Allah. The hadith, "Marry the affectionate and fertile woman, for I will boast of your numbers before the nations," encourages having many children to increase the Muslim nation in number and strength.
