In our current era, domestic workers are employees, and there is no text from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to be recited when hiring an employee. However, the Istikhara prayer is prescribed for anyone who wishes to hire a specific employee.

As for someone who owns a servant, a supplication from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has been reported to be recited at such a time: "O Allah, I ask You for her good and the good for which she was brought, and I seek refuge in You from her evil and the evil for which she was brought." This supplication can also be recited by someone who has brought in a domestic worker, while observing the caution not to hold the forelock of a female if the employer is male, or vice versa.
