Waking a sleeping person for prayer is recommendable if their sleep is not excessive. However, for someone who sleeps after the prayer time has begun, knowing that they will not wake up on their own, it is obligatory to wake them. Al-Qurtubi transmitted that it is not far-fetched to say that waking a sleeping person for an obligatory act is obligatory, and for a recommendable act, it is recommendable. Obeying the mother in her forbidding to wake the father for prayer is not obligatory.
