What is the Islamic legal ruling on what is known as rape, and what are its religious implications for both parties?

According to the Malikis and Hanbalis, she must observe an 'iddah (waiting period) of three menstrual cycles, while the Hanafis and Shafi'is hold that she is not required to observe an 'iddah.
