Is it permissible to imprison the runaway killer's father and his relatives?
It is not permissible to punish anyone for another's sin, even if it were his father or a relative, because Allah, the Almighty, says: "And every soul earns not [anything] except for itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another," and because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, no offender offends but against himself, nor does a father offend against his child, nor a child against his father." The meaning of this is that one is not held accountable for the offense of another, whether they are relatives or distant acquaintances.
